The Heart of Longmont United Methodist Church is a constant supporter of the following organizations, both through donations of goods and dollars and, in the case of Habitat for Humanity, through onsite volunteer work in home construction.
Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley
For the past 30 years, Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley has been making such a huge difference for families.
At a cost of $145,000 per house, St. Vrain Habitat has maintained the lowest cost of construction for a single family home among all local housing developers, both commercial and non-profit. St. Vrain Habitat offers affordable home mortgages that help finance more homes.
Here are the numbers as an example: 100 local homes have been built, another 150 homes have been built internationally, and a total of 318 families have been given an opportunity of home ownership, an achievement that could otherwise not be reached.
Boulder County is one of the wealthiest counties in the nation; yet tens of thousands of people live below the federal poverty level.
The OUR Center understands these situations and has created a welcoming, supportive and inclusive place for greater Longmont residents to seek an array of services to regain or begin their road to self-sufficiency. In mutual collaboration with its program participants, they develop personalized plans to assist individuals and families move toward self-sufficiency. With services in hospitality care, personal development and family assistance so that those in need can find the support they need.
Each participant meets with a Resource Navigator to explore their personal Self-Sufficiency Matrix and, through two-way follow-up, they regain or begin the road to self-sufficiency. OUR Center provides confidentiality, respect, compassionate care, and honesty with all individuals and families.
